If the first theatrical trailer of Rohan Sippy’s gritty action thriller, Dum Maaro Dum, is any indication, then it seems like Abhishek Bachchan is set to become Bollywood’s new angry young man. Like his father Amitabh Bachchan, the actor too will feature in ‘physical’ fight sequences.

And if that’s not enough, the kind of dialogue his character Inspector Kamath will be delivering, will definitely remind audiences of Big B’s Inspector Vijay from Zanjeer(1973).

But Abhishek doesn’t draw any parallels: “Neither is Dum Maaro Dum inspired byZanjeer nor is Inspector Kamath an ode to my father’s Inspector Vijay,” he asserts, adding that director-buddy Sippy likes to experiment with genres of cinema. “Rohan is good with characterisations. I  instantly liked Kamath… a no-nonsense, more action, less discussion character.”

While in Zanjeer, Inspector Vijay rebuked Sher Khan (Pran) in the police station, Inspector Kamath confesses to drinking on the job. “Apne municipality bhaiyo se seekho… do teen maar kar hi gutter mein utarte hain (Learn something from our brothers in the municipality. They down two-three pegs before stepping into the gutter),” he says at the end of the trailer, revealing his role, which is to rid Goa of drugs and sex.

Dum Maaro Dum will also be the actor’s third film with Sippy. Their previous work includes Kuch Na Kaho (2003) and Bluffmaster (2005). “Rohan wrote this role knowing how I’m going to perform; the speaking style, attitude and body language of Inspector Kamath. When he says one more take, I know what he wants.”

Conceding that he loves action films and also likes to do his own stunts, Abhishek enthuses, “I always look forward to doing all the action required of my characters. Besides, I’m a huge fan of car stunts; there is so much one can explore.”

The film has been making headlines recently for the Dum maaro dum… item song, picturised on co-star Deepika Padukone.
